McQueen For Puma

Stil_RUNNER'S WORKSHOP  Every once in a while there is an event that combines all of our favorite things- this Saturday Stil Studio happens to be hosting one of them. Although we may not be bonafide yogis yet, the Runner's Workshop combined with the Alexander McQueen for Puma trunk show is bound to be fantastic. With shopping from 11am - 2pm swing by and check out the McQueen for Puma line that features athletic wear that is anything but run of the mill. But be careful not to tire yourself out too much from shopping, because from 2pm - 4pm there will be a Runner's yoga workshop with local yoga master, Rebecca Pacheco. It's bound to be a relaxing afternoon of fun fashion and exquisite yoga.

Luna Boston's Newbury Street Store To Close Next Week

Luna Boston closes on Newbury St This news is bittersweet to break. Our friends at Luna Boston are closing their Newbury Street flagship store on Monday, March 1st. Before you get yourself into a panic a) Luna Boston is NOT, I repeat, is not going out of business and b) they're having a huge sale before saying goodbye to the traditional brick-and-mortar approach to retail.

LB will now focus on the expansion of their website, www.lunaboston.com, which actually just went international a few weeks ago. They will continue to bring you some of the best handbag and shoe lines you can find. Plus, LB is still Boston-based, with a showroom in Charlestown right off Sullivan Sq where clients can book showroom appointments on request to view collections.

As for this weekend's moving sale, LB is offering 40% off FULL PRICE items, an additional 20% off sale bags and an additional 40% off all shoe sales (all sales are final)! You seriously need to get there fast because this stuff is not going to last.

New Brahmin will truly miss Luna Boston. Aside from being downright cool and full of product that is both beautiful and hard to find in Boston, they were good friends, too. Jeannie has done makeup for them for their website for a while now, they were so kind to host the Blogger Mixer we were apart of in December and they introduced me to my favorite line of shoes, Pour la Victoire. Plus, we'll all miss our friend Joe Farese, the store's stylist who has become more than a friendly face on Newbury in our lives.

NB <3's LB 4-eva!

Color Splash

Colored-tights  Didn't get a picture of this one, but I can't stop thinking about it. I know colored tights are big right now, but ladies, they take a bit more thought than your average black opaque tights.

I saw a woman on the T wearing yellow tights, matching yellow Uggs and a denim embroidered mini out on a Saturday night and let's just say she was well above the age of 25. I was shocked- it just seemed so unacceptable.

But this hasn't been the only colored tight offense I have seen this past few weeks and I've gotta say it's getting bad. I have yet to see one girl (barring the woman on the T) wearing a bright hue with anything besides an all black ensemble. This is not okay, it looks silly and not to mention (on most body types) is incredibly unflattering.

Stay tuned this week for my how-to: colored tights because I just can't take it anymore.

Looking Ahead: Fall 2010 According To Stil's Betty Riaz

Betty Riaz Janine and I took a class trip to NYC, only to realize that most of Boston is here too. It's market and all the store owners/buyers are in town to start their fall 2010 buys. Seems like we're not the only ones who are a bit distracted from the current season at hand.

While just about every store in Boston has just received their big spring shipments in the past week, it's all about fall in the minds of those who bring us what we want to wear. Last night, we had the privilege to have delicious dinner with Betty Riaz, owner of Stil (along with her lovely friend and our dear Sam Mendoza) and got to pick her brain about her fall buy for her Chestnut Hill store.

"My first thought - Nirvana!" which made me think for a second. Since she's a yogi, I wasn't sure if she meant a state of mind or the band. Realizing that we were discussing women's McQ, she meant the band. As she walked us through her day, other great references came up. "Flashdance" induced giggles, particularly since Sam has never seen it and that's now his homework assignment. Then she broke out the stops with "Dynasty" which just got me excited. Joan Collins is totally having a moment and although even Betty agrees that big shoulders don't have a chance in Boston, the glam element of it all will.

What else to watch out for from Stil? A-mazing leather coats in buttery textures and incredible cuts (already on my must-have list). Great new denim. And a spring trickle-over: army/olive green. We can't wait to see how things are going to shape up.
