Don't Stop Til You Get Enough
It's amazing, the power of technology and how fast word spread about Michael Jackson's death yesterday. Rather than harp on the untimeliness and speculation or the negative stuff that he brought upon himself, I just want to take a minute about how his style is still influential at this very moment.
First and foremost, WWD had a poorly timed (not their fault at all) mention yesterday how MJ was planning to be costumed for his upcoming London shows in head-to-toe Swarovski crystals. 300,000 (total for costumes and sets) were planned to be used. Secondly, and this was my second though immediately after processing the news of his death, who the hell is going to buy (women's) Balmain now?
On that note, let's reflect on how epic MJ's style over the times is relevant to the now. Tuxedo jackets with the sleeves pushed up and oversized bowties. Cropped pants revealing socks and tiny bowties. The glove (I would still kill for it). Band jackets (Balmain, again). Metallics and patents. Hospital masks (hey, swine flu is still out there). Those socks (socks are big for men's Spring 10). Bubbles. There's so so so much more and I need to stop because it's actually making me sad. Hopefully every DJ on the planet won't overdo it and Thriller will continue to remain in my top 3 albums ever.
