Beauty Tutorial: Cat Eyes, Step-By-Step
[photo source]Cat Eye style eyeliner has been on the mainstream beauty radar ever for some time now. You could say Angelina was the face of this movement.
A thick, winged line along the upper lids is a look I rock on the regular, as do many of my friends. People often ask about the technique, and there's really not much to it.
After the jump, a step-by-step (with terrifying closeups) on how to get the look.
First up, the tools: MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack and #209 Brush.
Dip your brush into the creme liner to just saturate the bristles.
Start with a primed eye: concealer, powder, eyeshadow, whatever.
Hold your brush flat against your lashline and draw a line from the center of your eye outward.
You'll end up with something like this.
Next, work from the inner corner of your eye (near the tear duct) and draw a line connecting to where you started in the center.
This is what you should have. Not perfect, but it'll do.
Next, establish an end point for the outer wing of your liner.
Draw a little line or dot to use as a guideline for where you want to end up.
Connect your outermost point with a line going to where you left off at the end of your lashes before.
Next, starting at the base of your top lash line, fill in the triangle that makes up the outer wing.
Add mascara, et voila! The almost perfect cat eye.Now flip that and reverse it for your other eye. Don't get discouraged if you cannot get them perfectly even on your first or even tenth try; I rarely do myself. Like I said about eye brows, your eyes are sisters, not twins. You don't need to use creme or gel liner to get this look. Liquid liner is great, or even wetting your liner brush and dipping into a powder eyeshadow. Experiment with different lengths of the wing, thicknesses of the line, colors, and formulas to find what works best for you. As always, you got questions...I got answers.
