A Taste of Davis Sq on Newbury St

Davis Square mainstay Suneri opened up their second location on Newbury Street and I stopped by to scope out their new digs. It was kind of a shock to walk in to the former Luna Boston store (which was dark grey) to find the walls white, making the space feel larger and more airy. Racks have replaced the shelves that once held pretty bags and a dressing room has been built out in the back of the store.

Suneri prides itself on having an international vibe, which it certainly has. The store's name, in case you were wondering, is a combo of the first names of the owners, 3 sisters of Indian descent (Sudha, Neena and Ritu) and just happens to mean golden in Hindi. While the only brand that I recognized was Genetic Denim, the store is filled with labels proudly made in India, the UK and China. I immediately fell in lust with Fumblin Foe, basically because they make a purple feather skirt (one of my weaknesses). The rest of the line is pretty cute, kind of like a more affordable version of Haute Hippie (one of the standout brands on the contemporary floor at Saks). While a lot of the merchandise consists of pricey, cute tops, directional skirts and caftans that would easily be approved by Kelly Cutrone, I also found myself enamored with a beautiful raw silk dress from British line Conditions Apply.

Overall, Suneri strikes me as a great place for mother-daughter tag-team shopping. It has a good amount of hip and cute balanced with more sophisticated pieces that can easily satisfy a wide demographic range. While the shoes were not particularly my taste, it's nice to see a boutique that offers a range of accessories beyond bags or jewelry. The staff was kind and not at all pushy or too inquisitive, making for a peaceful experience.
