CLOSET REMIX

Inside Jessica's closetIn the spirit of all things new around here, we're kicking off a new series here at New Brahmin called Closet Remix. The idea is that the NB team comes to you and raids your closet. We're not telling you what to keep or what to toss, we're just shopping your closet to create some new looks for you.

In our first edition of Closet Remix, the NB team jumped to the chance of helping one of our own get ready for some press shots. Jessica was planning a few looks for a shoot with Sarah Winchester and asked for some advice. We jumped on the opportunity, assigning Janine to go in and take a crack at creating some new outfits without spending a dime. Jeannie jumped in and did Jessica's makeup, so it was a full family affair. Jess did her own hair, which I only wish I could do (I can barely blow out my bangs properly).

Hear about Janine's process and Jessica's reactions, with a bunch of pretty pictures from our new friend and future collaborator, Sarah Winchester, after the jump.

Janine: "Not only was I excited for a night of gossip and wine, but I know how it feels to be bored with your closet and wearing the same things, the same ways for weeks on end."

Jessica's closet is definitely impressive. She made the most of the little space offered in her South End apartment, with two bars filled with clothes. Always the aesthete, even how she keeps her accessories in order is beautiful (me, I just throw everything in a cabinet or end up hanging necklaces on door handles).

Janine continues, "First of all, the girl has a great closet. It was stuffed with soft fabrics, clean neutrals and a LOT of accessories. I went into it thinking 'If this was my closet, what would I wear?'"

Janine: "The result-  a mix of patterns and textures that I really loved."

Jessica loved it too. She was blown away by what Janine pulled and paired. I have to say this look is classic Janine - breton, pattern and a scarf.

You gotta love a good detail shot. Jessica is wearing MAC's Light Affair (discontinued), which was a birthday present from - you guessed it - Mz Pro Nailz herself, Jeannie Vincent.

I had to get Oscar in there. He's Jessica's famous Wheaton Terrier and studio mascot. You've never met a nicer dog than Oscar.

Jessica's reaction: "I think this is my favorite outfit just as it brought out a very flirty side of my personality... and I felt uber cute in it!"

Fun facts: "The gold ring I found at SOWA antiques for $5. I absolutely love the horizontal oval, it's become a regular in my wardrobe. The scarf is also vintage Bill Blass, I found it while thrifting on Haight St in SF for $3!"

Jess bought the dark grey silk Armani shirt from a vintage booth at SoWa Open Market last year and never knew what to do with it. It was a complete steal but too big for her. The belting and knit vest got Jess psyched and definitely resulted in a new favorite outfit for spring.

Jessica's reaction: "This was fun too - a little sexy but neutral at the same time which I like."

Fun facts: "The silk Armani sheath was found at the same SOWA dealer for $10, the DKNY shoes from that outfit were on sale for $30."

The bottle of Veuve at the bottom of the picture is completely unintentional yet hilarious. Janine threw in a tougher, more casual look with boyfriend jeans, a plain tee and the coolest band/military jacket.

Jessica's reaction: "I could easily see myself wearing - and probably will once the weather warms up more."

Closet Remix got Jessica to rediscover "A lot of the pieces were things I never wear - with the exception of the striped shit and Current Elliot boyfriend jeans, most of the other pieces have never (maybe once if most) seen the light of day.

"But that's the point of this whole exercise, isn't it?!" says Janine. And that right there is the whole psychology behind Closet Remix. It's having a fresh pair of eyes seeing your wardrobe in a whole new way.

A HUGE thanks to Sarah Winchester for all the photos!
